International Refugee Crisis Affects Children

The international refugee crisis is still a reality. With Greece closing its borders, neighboring European crisis are starting to feel the strain. Italy is receiving an influx of refugees arriving by the Mediterranean Sea through Libya. As summer weather approaches, the numbers will continue to increase, especially unaccompanied youth and children who flee violence.  In a span of three days last week, 700 deaths have been reported on the Mediterranean waters. Although the journey is in and of itself dangerous to any refugee, unaccompanied children and youth are at an increased risk as smugglers and traffickers may take advantage of their situation to exploit them. Let’s take a pledge to protect youth all over the world!
